Collection of publications in relief alphabets

The collection of publications in relief alphabets comprises 472 items, manuals, practice handbooks, brochures and magazines in Braille, Klein and Moon alphabet and in enlarged black print.

The publications were intended for blind and visually impaired people in education, professional work and in daily life, from the 19th century, when Vinko Bek started collecting them for his private collection, until today.

The collection provides an insight into the development of literacy in Braille and other scripts from the origins to the modern era. The most significant example of the literacy of the blind in Braille is Vinko Bek's Primary for the Blind.

The collection contains valuable transcripts of black print for subjects in educational institutions, as well as Braille print related to material supporting the idea of availability to people of impaired vision.
